How to Cite Sources: 3 Ways
Parenthetical Referencing:
a. Direct Quote – Write the quote EXACTLY!
b. Embedded Quote – write your opinions + part of
a direct quote.
c. Paraphrase – Put the information in your own
words.
Examples:
Direct – “Single sex classrooms can make it easier for teachers to match their instructional style to the behavioral characteristics of the students” (Single-Sex Classrooms, Oh NO!).
Embedded – Single-sex classrooms may not be for everyone, but they may benefit “low income students” (Flannery).
Paraphrase – When boys are separated from girls, they act differently (Kirschenbaum, Boyd).
